FIGURES OF AFFECTION… (A Peep into Humanity) …
“Everyone deserves not just to survive, but to live.
This is the most important legacy of Humanity”
-
Steve McQueen (Director of the Movie, 12 Years a
Slave)
(For The Captives) …
The sands of time are exhausted;
Hour glasses are shattered;
Young mums, no milk;
Dads, no treat.
Faces in the crowd;
Tears roll down;
Soaks their cravats;
Walking in imagination, their legs are frail;
Once a vibrant emotion –
Now cold - blind.
Chains are their Jewelries;
Their skins like patterns, printed with whips;
-Cutting in;
Deep, so they can’t move a vein to strike back;
Torn. They won’t survive.
No radar to trace them from home;
Some left without hint;
Others first, peddled themselves to fraudsters;
Abandoned and lost, on a desert of no return.
Their screams have reached home;
But we can’t cross the same path that dried them up;
Can’t taunt the scourging sun there.
We can only pray for the Almighty’s intrusion.
(To Their Captors) …
So it’s you…
It’s you who I called brother;
When you lacked, I catered for;
It’s you who I called sister;
When you starved, I fed...
So it’s you…?
I was your cure; but
Now you’re my disease;
I saved you; but
Now you’re killing me.
Is it really you…?
Whom I rescued you from a trap; but now
You laid the trap on my path;
You were thirsty, I gave you from my cup;
Now I beg for a drop but you break my jaw.
It is you…
I showed you kindness; but
You now show me madness;
I clothed you; but
You’ve to the world shown my nakedness.
Halt, rethink and wait;
We have suffered enough waste;
We would stand, though lifeless and wade;
Our bones are strong and won’t melt like wax;
It’s a pleasure to let you know at the end, we would win.
You’ve started a fight-
You cannot finish.
(To Our Leaders) …
Greetings to those who sit on top;
I think this is not the promised cup;
You feed well and give us crumbs;
Now off our boat-
Some has jumped.
If only you played your cards;
If only you guarded the Queen like in chess;
If only you took us along;
…
But no, you play you games in secret;
Then bring us results as you please;
We all are scared so many run away;
Abiding is dying slowly.
Now the die is cast;
You just watched past;
On soft chairs you sat;
While we laid on mats.
Truth be told, they have faults; but
You pushed them to naught;
They had unaccomplished visions; but
You made it blurry.
You went on top to do a job; but
You only cut and chop;
You forget the poor in the street-shop;
Until they are washed ashore.
Wake up! Wake up!! Wake up!!!
We love you, please love us too;
We would support you if you support us;
Remember, you didn’t vote us;
We did.
(To The Families of the Captives) …
Better don’t cry;
So you don’t run dry;
Be strong continuously;
For they need your strength.
You have no blame;
They have carried their shame;
Since they felt home is hot;
Now they’ve seen that life is short.
You can’t go there;
Your prayers can;
We can’t deliver them;
Only God can.
Better don’t cry;
So you don’t run dry;
Be at peace continuously;
For they need your peace.
(To The World in General) …
There is one question that remains unreciprocated;
By the previous generations;
This present one; and
The generations to come –
WHAT HAS BLACK RACE DONE WRONG…?
